Maxview's sponsored karting champ, Marcus Hudson, reports on Round 2 of the MSA ABkC NKF Super 4 250 British Championship.

Date- 12/05/2018 - 13/05/2018

Track Conditions- Sunny 20C.
Location- Rowrah , Cumbria.

As this was our first time racing at Rowrah, the majority of Saturday's practice was spent getting the gearing right for this challenging circuit. By the third practice session we had found the right gearing and now our efforts moved onto ensuring the kart was ready for race day.

Working on the gearing before the set-up was key as we knew the gearing would change the handling of the kart during the lap. In every session we improved our lap times and at the end of the day we were just over 1.5 seconds quicker than our best lap in the first session. We was feeling confident for the heats on the Sunday.

Heat 1
Grid- Pole
Made an excellent start and lead for a few laps before being overtaken but the engine then seemed down on power and dropped to third, then down one of the straights the engine failed and I had to retire. This was very disappointing as we were racing well and on for a great result.

In the paddock we found that the piston skirt had broken and blown the engine up. We then changed the engine but this resulted in us missing heat 2. We managed to get the kart ready for the third heat.

Heat 2

Heat 3
Grid- 9th
Made a good start but a lot of us got pushed onto the grass as we missed a slow moving kart off the grid, was in 9th position. I then moved up to 8th by the end of the first lap and caught 7th very quickly. I was trying different lines to get by him, he was slow off the chicane and I always had a run on him down the following straight. I tried for a few laps to out brake him on the inside and also the outside. The outside was always going to be difficult but I had to try. Unfortunately on lap 5 the engine made a weird noise and stopped.

Back in the paddock we investigated the situation and found that the big end bearing had failed. This was very disappointing as both engines were rebuilt ready for the season. Normally they are very reliable. This meant we were unable to take part in the final.

The weekend's racing was very disappointing after a promising Saturday practice. The only thing is to focus our efforts and move onto the next round and hope lady luck is with us.

Next Round is my favourite circuit Kimbolton on the 9th and 10th June.

I would like to thank my sponsors Listers BMW, Silkolene, Maxview, Bearts of Stowbridge, RP Compliance, Hair Styles, Carter Haulage and PRO-S UK LTD for their continued support.
